After the success of my collaboration with Great Family Board Games (GFBG) designing their games ‘Lockdown’ and ‘Secret Spells’, they approached me once more to create the assets for their new game under development: ‘Football Tactical Genius’.
Football…gaming…illustration and design…just a dream job for me!
The brief
GFBG had concepted a football management board game for eight years and upwards. Players would be required to build their own squad, set formations, and use football tactics to win the game.
The project required me to create several assets: the game board itself, stylising player characters to create more than 100 player cards across all positions and each with their own star ratings, 20 European Team cards, design of the game box and lid, and a logo.
After initial discussions with GFBG and seeing their rough sketches and initial ideas, I started my design work…
Design development
I worked entirely digitally on this project, creating the game and assets as vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator.
I took inspiration from iconic football strips and badges, to inform a lot of the design choices. I’ve been an avid football supporter for most of my life, so a lot of the design decisions were based around iconic teams, players from the past and present day, and styles that remind me of the best days of football.
